is the process of reintegrating the missing parts of art work or antiques in order
to restore the original appearance. "It
takes time, at least four or five weeks, to study a painting in order to take
off layers of grime that have accumulated. Very old paintings have been varnished
and there is an accumulation of dirt and smoke, often from being hung above a
firephace mantel, so the original paint is no longer the same." "To
bring art back to its original condition, there is manipulation of different elements
and techniques. The original coloring process must be followed and the original
hand of the artist must be preserved as much as possible." VISIT
